Consignment Delivery

Due to insurance guidelines, delivery personnel are unable to enter private residences. The recipient of the goods is responsible for any additional lifting once the initial delivery has been made. The package as delivered shall be two person lift only, it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that adequate resource is on hand for movement/ handling of the door system on the stipulated delivery date. Please note that all deliveries will be made to ground floor only and if we are unable to deliver because you are out or if we cannot deliver to the curbside of the property, we may charge for re-delivery. Customers do not necessarily have to be present at time of delivery, but in these instances we would require advance permission to deliver in your absence.

Please note that the delivery contractor will not take away packaging material, also it is essential that this packaging is retained until installation is complete, as any door returns need to be made in their original packaging.

Goods Receipt Procedure
All of our door systems are checked in full before dispatch from the factory, however it is important to check your goods upon receipt to ensure they are the correct size and style and undamaged. The delivery contractor will ask you to inspect the door and sign for receipt in good condition, when doing so visible transport damage must be detailed and noted clearly by you at the time of receipt on the delivery note for a claim to be entertained. Should any discrepancies be evident, the word “damaged”¯ must be written on the driver’s notes. No liability whatsoever will be taken by Universal Components Ltd or our chosen carrier when a clearly signed Proof of Delivery note has been obtained even where the words “not checked”¯, “unexamined”¯ or words to that effect have been marked by the receiving customer, such annotation shall not render the company liable for any shortage or damage subsequently discovered. Risk in the goods sold passes to the customer upon delivery, whether or not a signature of receipt has been obtained.

Goods Acceptance Criteria
Customers should be aware that once any permanent alteration to the door system has been made (including drilling etc), you will be deemed to have accepted the goods as supplied. Unfortunately, Universal Components Ltd cannot replace a faulty or incorrectly supplied door if any alterations have been carried out. If a third party has been engaged to carry out the installation it is crucial that they thoroughly check the consignment for completeness prior to any drilling or permanent alteration to the door system.

Installation
Always check the size of your new door framework against your doorway aperture before removing the old door and frame. Unless highly competent at home DIY, we strongly recommend use of a competent or qualified contractor to carry out the door installation work as it is well recognised that the majority of damage claims to door systems are due to incorrect installation. Universal Components Ltd recommend that you do not book an installation contractor until your order has been received and checked. Appropriate care must be taken when installing your door system and in following the specified installation guide instructions available from this website. Universal Components Ltd shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury caused by failure to follow the installation guide instructions. This does not exclude our liability for defective products or injury caused by our negligence.

Planning permission
It is the customer’s responsibility to find out if planning permission or building regulations approval is needed for the goods. Universal Components Ltd will not be liable for any costs, expenses, loss, or claims for compensation or any other liability arising directly or indirectly as a result of you not getting planning permission or building regulations approval where these are applicable.

Damage or Product Fault Notification

In the event that your designer door system has a manufacturing defect requiring replacement, our liability will extend to the replacement of the faulty goods but will not cover responsibility for any consequential costs such as those incurred by booking a third party for system installation. Any appropriate remediation will be made once the door system has been returned and inspected at our facility. Returned door systems must not be altered/ modified in any way and must be returned in their original packaging. Please note that we cannot accept warranty claims against goods that are damaged after delivery where this is due to the negligence of the customer, the customer's installation contractor or any other third party. Should a customer arrange their own transport for a product return, they do so at their own risk, Universal Components Ltd cannot be held responsible for goods in transit, other than for couriers contracted by us. The customer must arrange and pay the cost of insuring and returning the goods to the manufacturing plant, or at customer request we can collect the product and deduct the delivery and return cost from any refund applicable. In the rare occurrence that an item is damaged prior to, or during dispatch and a replacement/repair is necessary the original lead time may be re-instated from the date that the damage was reported.
